Paused Mode

Paused Mode

Paused mode can be used when a more detailed examination or more accurate measurements of a waveform are required.

Pause mode can also be used to initiate the Matlab extension analysis.

To pause a WaveView display, press the button on the toolbar. To release pause mode, press the button again. (The ‘Pause’ key on the keyboard can also be used to toggle paused mode)

When a WaveView is paused, the current time and amplitude scaling values are saved. When pause is released, these values are restored, and display commences from the most recently received data. This allows the user to zoom in on a waveform during pause mode without the need to zoom back out for play mode.

When in pause mode, a number of additional controls and operations are available:

A second method of measurement can be used : the user can ‘drag’ a box anywhere on the display, which shows an instant time and amplitude representation of the dragged box. When the mouse is released, the display is ‘zoomed’ in to display the selected time interval, to the nearest second.

A scroll bar appears at the bottom of the window, which can be used to move the display freely within the stored waveform. This, in conjunction with the time zoom facility can be used to closely examine any part of a recently received waveform.
If fitted, a mouse wheel can be used to scroll the window. Hold down the CTRL key whilst turning the mouse wheel. Note: depending on the key presses, the wheel can also be used for Amplitude Scaling and Time Scaling.

The range covered by the scroll bar is the data held within the memory buffer (see Display Setup). Therefore whilst paused, the scroll bar position will ‘creep left’ as new data comes in on the right. The unit of stepping is one second.

Whilst Paused mode can be used with the replay facility, some other factors need to be considered for the effective use. See the section on replaying files for more information.

Paused mode is also used for accessing the Matlab Extension and Data Selection features.
