EAS Geophysical Instrumentation and Facilities

    High Precision GPS:

  • 5 - Campaign GPS units: each with zephyr ground plane antennas and Trimble R7 receivers, with power/antenna/download cables.
  • 5 - Continuous GPS units: each with zephyr ground plane antennas and Trimble NetRS receivers.
    1. 2 (CDVV, PDBG) were installed over the Socorro Magma Body, near Socorro, NM in November 2005.
    2. 2 (KERA, NOMI) were installed over Santorini Caldera, Greece in May 2006.
  • 2 - Dorne-Margolin Choke-Ring Antennas for continuous or campaign GPS measurements.
  • 1 - Trimble Kinematic post-processing GPS backpack system, usable with one of the 5 campaign GPS units.
  • 1 - Magellan post-processing differential GPS system (Base + roaming receivers)

    Broad-Band Seismic Instrumentation:

  • 5 - Guralp CMG-3ESP seismometers
  • 5 - Guralp CMG-6T seismometers
  • 12 - Guralp CMG-PEPPV seismometers (on loan to high schools and related institutions)
  • 1 - Guralp CMG-DM24S3/DCM 3-channel data comm. module
  • 10 - RefTek 130 Data-loggers
  • 4 - RefTek 72-A07 Data-loggers
  • 8 - RefTek 4Gb external disks
  • 14 - GPS clocks (10 with on-board receivers)
  • 1 - HP palmtop computer

    Short-Period Seismic and Acoustic Instrumentation:

  • 1 - 12 channel geomatrix digital refraction line and data recorder
  • ~30 - commercial 15 Hz geophone strings
  • ~25 - 1.0 Hz geophones (vertical and horizontal)
  • 2 - acoustic sensors (owned by the Georgia Tech Research Institute)

    Other Geophysical Instrumentation:

  • 1 - LaCoste Romberg model g land gravity meter
  • 4 - magnetometers:
      - Relative: 1 Schmidt (vertical; museum piece), 1 McPhar fluxgate (directional)
      - Absolute, total field: 1 Geometrics G856AX, 1 GM126 Barringer(?)
  • 2 - DC resistivity meters
  • 1 - Syscal Kid resistivity string
  • 2 - Electrical Conductivity Sensors (EM-31,-34)
